Got an early morning flight to Singapore, have been looking forward to this for ages! anyway we took the option of skytrain and city train rather than paying the extraordinate prices for the limo the Hyatt had tried to rope us into getting. So landed in the Hyatt with the backpacks and plastic bags in tow, probably dripping from midday heat too! Im sure they got a good laugh as they held the door open and we asked them to take oubr bags to the Conceirge!
when we went to check in, they told us we had been upgraded to the grand Hyatt club so we had to get a special card to acess the very exclusive floor 15 :) eventually checked into our room, massive, everything was massive, the TV the Bed the windows, the bathroom had 3 seperate rooms inside it for vanity & jacuzzi bath, toilet and shower! totally unneccesery for us backpackers! So had a walkaround Singapore and talk about shopping, thats all people do here. there were at least 6 huge shopping centers on our road so we traipsed around them til we decided that we actually weren't loaded and didnt want to carry everything around for the next 6 months! Went back to the hotel for some relaxing by the pool and some Dinner! After dinner back to the exclusive club area for some cocktails! We were met at the door by the gayest man ever. He proceded to be flamboyant about everything, showing us the bar where you make your own cocktails, i settled for a martini with 3 olives while denis went with some vodkda not wanting to give the gayest man we have ever met any ideas! so we had a few of those ( they were free!) and went for another walk around the city. Christmas is definitely in full swing here lights everywhere apparently there is a big competition between all the shopping centers " who has the best decorations". Singapore is a really nice place, every thing is so clean even the cars, a taxi man told us that they get fined for having dirty cars.
Next day we were due to met Bernie and Keir at Raffles for singapore slings, we wore told that and its in the lonely planet that no shorts or sandals were allowed, so it was an excuse to go shopping! Bought some shoes in the markets and had some dinner in KFC to try to offset the price of Raffles later on :)
So Raffles! very posh! but there is no dress code! lol! Met Bernie and Keir and headed off to Clarkes Quay by the waterfront for some drinks and food! Clarkes Quay is a lovely, loads of restarants and bars down by the waterfront. decided to go with a Thai restarant cos we missed the food so much already! Altho the prices here arent cheap, they are cheaper than home but so expensive compared to what we are used to for the past month!
Our flights weren't til 10 the next night so we decided that we would go and look at some laptops to see if we could afford one, of course we bought one in the end :) We were expecting a lot more from singapore airport but we really didnt see what all the fuss was about, things were more expensive that the city but I suppose we werent allowed to go to departures area until 2 hours before flight so maybe we didnt see it all!
All in all tho singapore was great fun and it was lovely to stay in a lovely hotel and be waited on :)
